If you’re curious if a pet door can be installed on a glass door or a window, the short answer is yes.
There are several options you have, depending on several factors:
For Cats:
1. Probably the most versatile cat door that mounts on the glass would be Plexidor pet door.
These doors are not only great for glass installations, but they are perfect as sliding glass cat doors (such as on patios).
They come in a great variety of colors and can be matched with the door perfectly, so they look like they were a part of the door from the day one.
2. Another option of a pet door for glass door, would be a electronic cat door made by Cat Mate or Sure Flap which they will open for your cat only, keeping the predators or other strays out. And one of the two models even has a battery-operated timer, allowing you to forever forget about changing the locking function of the door.
Both of these choices are made to be mounted on a variety of surfaces (not just glass) and are both energy-efficient and draft-resistant.
For Dogs:
1. A very good solution for dog owners is the Plexidor Glass Conversion Pet Door made by us
using Plexidor’s robust and energy efficient pet doors .
The doors have been tested for up to 2 million cycles and up to 35 MPH winds, andare good for weather conditions ranging from the desert in Arizona to Alberta’s snow-covered flats
All you have to do is swap the glass insert, or let me take care of that for you (I have glass installers across Canada that can do that in 99% of the cases).
We have installed quite a large number of these doors over the years, and now have hundreds of installers North America and world Wide so please email or give me a call to discuss your situation and we can put you in touch with one of our Installers
Mounting A Door On The Glass
Unfortunately you can’t simply get a glass cutter and cut a hole in your glass pane to install a pet door. Tempered or sealed double-pane glass can’t be cut, and replacing it with regular glass would violate a number of safety codes, and expose you and your pet to danger.
I offer a number of solutions for pet owners that wish to install the pet door on a glass surface. If you want to know more about mounting doors on glass, it’s best if you call me or send me an email and we will connect you with one of hundreds of installers and explain the simple process.
