The Decision of if you should get a pet door for your dog or cat is an vital decision that requires many considerations. There are doors in many sizes to fit the tiniest of dogs or cats one to fits your biggest canine. Measuring your pet to find the size door that best fits your pets size and needs is very important

To find the correct size on your door you ll want to measure your k9 from the the top of shoulders to the bottom of the chest, just behind front legs. You will also need to measure the width of the pet at his or her widest.

The essential thing when picking out a door for your dog or cat is specifications. There are many great features about them and they offer a considerable amount of convenience including burglar safe devices to make it very hard to open without the particular collar. This requires getting a dog door made from quality materials like the plexidor with their insulated Rigid, high-impact, shatter-resistant panels, and its important that the panel forms a great seal when closed . It is fairly priced and defiantly will serve its purpose. Although an outdoor patio dog door just isn’t considered a foremost tool on your decorating efforts, they should at a minimum blend in with the surroundings as does the Plexidor glass conversion pet door

When installing doggie doors or cat flaps you could have three location choices choices.

Regular metal, wood or fiberglass house door.

Wall mounted that mounts through your wall.

Glass mounted that can be mounted through your patio door or window.

Congratulations, you set the foundation for an simple and enjoyable life with all your pets and their new access point that will save you money with energy efficiency. !

Most pet doors use a vinyl flaps that are prone to warping and tearing, other doggie doors use hinges at the very top of a piece of plexiglass so there ‘s no flex on the particular flap. On further research, we learned that magnets could get easily removed making the seal much less efficient. The Plexidor we found hinge from the side and are spring operated and are the quietest and come with a 5 year warranty. One incredibly neat function is the pet doors that are fitted with automated security locks. It is actually directly visible that would-be burglars can not open them which is a deterrent in the case of to break-ins. A doggy door enable you to retain a pet puppy and never worry about then using your floor as their bathroom.

So you’ve been thinking of replacing a door in your house, consider installing a pet-friendly door for your family’s four-legged, furry friend.

Pet Access Solutions expert Andrew Phillips, owner of Pet Access Solutions.com in Vancouver British Columbia , says a pet door is a “Useful addition” to an existing Patio door, wall or house door if the homeowner’s pet is allowed to venture outside unsupervised.

“The pet door allows you to open up your primary door and give your pet the freedom to come and go as they please,” Andrew says.

Pet doors come in a variety of styles fitting every need and budget. Doors that flap open or close when pets enter or exit provide an inexpensive option, while higher technology doors that open and close via a sensor placed on the pet’s collar provide higher security at a higher cost.

“Most pet doors have a lock on the interior if you are concerned about unwanted critters coming in,”Andrew says.”

Robert Wollet of Pet Doors USA, in Bradenton Florida., agrees pet doors provide convenience for both the homeowner and the pet.

“If you’re in a fenced area and you know you’re not gonna have raccoons, you don’t live by a creek and it’s [not] open to every critter in the book, a pet door is really nice for pets to go outside, do their thing and be able to come back and not have to bug you every time they want to go out,” he says.

The pet door Andrew most often recommends to homeowners is custom-made through a third party vendor. After the homeowner selects a new sliding door, the third-party manufactures a glass panel with a pet door that Andrew can then install into the existing door.

“It’s literally a door that’s cut into the glass so when your door is on the locked position, it’s air tight and the pet learns to put nose through the door and just goes,” the Vancouver door installation expert explains.

Andrew advises his customers against installing a pet door in the home’s primary door, “because you would probably have to replace the door if you decided to sell the home.”

Where the Glass mount patio door pet doors leave you with the original glass unit which can be reinstalled inexpensively when you decide to move or no longer require the pet door.

This is great as the smaller native wildlife doesn’t have to suffer from these great hunters and equally these great hunters are not hunted by larger native wildlife.

The problem is that these felines could use a breath of fresh air or an adventure to the outdoors every now and then and Habitat Haven has the answer with their Cats Den and Catio’s which are great as they allow your cat the freedom of the outdoors and can also get that stinky litter box outdoors aswell.

These Habitats come in just about any imaginable dimension including tunnels, stairs, towers, bridges and tree houses.

Now, in response to growing demand, Habitat Haven has begun manufacturing enclosures adapted to the needs of an ever wider variety of pets: not only cats and dogs, but rabbits, ferrets, tortoises, and birds like parrots and doves.

These attractive pet habitats are available in a number of do-it-yourself configurations or custom-installed. They blend into your backyard, balcony, or indoor space and are a snap to expand or disassemble and take with you.

This topic comes up a lot and infact its one of the most asked questions by my customers.
So I want to know What Critters have come through your or your friends or families pet door?
I have noted that almost everyone has a story, either their own or a friends so please share it with us or forward this post to the friend who has the story and get them to tell us about it and have pictures are great too.
It is inevitable that critters are going to occasionally come through standard non locking pet doors and the simple but more expensive solution is to install an electronic pet door that either works using RFID or inferred technology as an example. These work great and do prevent unwanted guests coming in for a free meal.
For the rest of us who can’t afford an electronic pet door there is the tried and true regular pet door which if given a reason too lets anything in.
What I mean by “given a reason too” is critters are primarily out to find food and if you have the tasty smell of fido or kitties dinner sitting right beside your pet door allowing the lovely smell to float out through your pet door as most inexpensive ones are not very air tight.
Them the critters out on their nightly rounds are going to stop and investigate where that aroma is coming from and thus leading them through your pet door for a free snack.
Firstly we recommend not keeping your pets food next to the pet door and secondly use an extremely energy efficient pet door to all but eliminate the air flow through the pet door.
Please share us your stories with us.

Just like many of you this Christmas Season we are thinking of a new companion to add our the family but with such a busy life there are so many things to consider and found this article below a great checklist to make sure that this potential change in life style is something we are ready for to provide the best care and lifestyle to your new companion which ever species or breed it maybe.

Pets can add so much to life: affection, activity, fun, interest, companionship, security, support, relaxation, and stress relief. Pet ownership can teach kids not only about animal nature but also about compassion and responsibility. The trick is to choose the pet you’re ready for!

Before you decide to buy or adopt a pet, keep that stray, or accept one of the litter from a friend, review this simple checklist. Do you have the STAMPS:

Space— Is your house in renovation chaos? Does your condo or apartment allow pets?

Time— Are you home much? Do you have time to play with, train, care for and nurture apet? Or are your hands full with a new baby, juggling lessons and sports, or a new job?

Affinity—Does everyone in the family like animals? Are most of you interested in having apet? Do any of you have allergies to specific pets?

Money—Can you afford the food, maintenance, veterinary checkups, licensing, andincidental costs to care for your pet?

Patience—Are you ready to routinely clean up after your pet? Can you accept there will be‘accidents’ along the way as you adapt to each other?

Stability— Do you have a predictable routine? Does business mean you have to travel orrelocate often? Is your household settled for the time being or in flux?

There is a pet for every pet lover—whether it’s a dog, cat, bird, rodent, reptile, lizard or other small animal. Start with those that have been bred for or proven to make good domestic pets. Think about your personalities and lifestyle, learn the traits of different breeds or types of animal, and choose one(s) suited to your family.

Homebodies or outdoors enthusiasts? You can give your pet room to roam, free from threat of predators, falls, or traffic with Habitat Haven’s custom-designed pet enclosures. These sturdy easy-to-assemble modular habitats blend into your backyard, balcony, or indoor space, whether house, condo, apartment, workplace or cottage. They let your pet enjoy the best of both worlds: the comfort, safety and security of the indoors, and the freedom, fresh air and fun of the outdoors.

Because we all know that our furry companions are spoiled rotten and christmas is usually the time off the year we go all out.

My inlays dog Buddy gets at least a dozen toys wrapped under the tree which he some how manages to figure out which are his and even unwraps some when nobody is watching. He is quite the gift unwrapper.

My own Dog Bailey who unfortunately may not see Xmas this year due to failing health was spoiled rotten ( I think I even spent more on him than my lovely wife, but don’t tell her ). He was graced with his usual new dog bed and a couple of toys but last year he also got a heated dog bowl and the most amazing pet door ever.

Because we only have a patio door to the back yard I finally broke down and installed a Plexidor Electronic Pet Door through the Glass patio door which is great as he can now come and go as he pleases.
Two amazing companies, Plexidor and Pet Access Solutions have teamed up to bring you the Plexidor Glass Conversion pet door which opens up the possibilities to thousands more pet owners who only have the option of a patio door or window to install a pet door through.

The Plexidor Glass Conversion pet door installs easily with the help of over 400 dealers and installers nation wide who are there to take care of the installation of the new glass panel with the pet door installed.

This installation is fast, simple and clean as there is no house door or wall to cut a hole in and if you ever wanted to reverse the installation, it is simple as you get to keep the original which can be reinstalled.

What makes their pet door so much better than the old patio panel you ask? Well it allows you to lock your patio door as the factory intended which also allows it to seal properly because if you have ever owned a patio panel then you know that they are not at all energy efficient and take up half the open door area.

I love this clean and almost transparent installation and your dog and or cat will too.

Thank you so much Andrew for the wheelchair! We hooked tazer up today. He immediately walked with it and pulled it around the grass. He went to the gate to go for a walk in it like he knew what it was for, so i grabbed the leash and away we went!.. he rolled it down the small incline driveway and onto the street - pulled it across the street and off road onto the grass and leaves, and wanted to go to the park.!

At the same time, his tail was wagging and he was barking an excited loud bark as he does when he is happy!! he never shut up!! We wandered up and down the street and he didn’t want to come home. But we didn’t want to over do it! Before the wheelchair, he was lying on the couch looking out the window, for three months! Now he will be able to get out and get some fresh air and live again! So the wheelchair has brought life back into our house not only for him but for us!! yeah!! He is a big strong dog and i am glad i got the longer taller size, as under 17 would’ve probably been too short for him.

Many many thanks!!! Sue

Window Mounted Cat Door

For years now you have been wanting a pet door to allow your companion the freedom to come and go at their leisure but have been restricted by the HOA or Strata not allowing any holes to be cut into walls and doors of any of the exterior structure.

I found this dilemma and frustration as well for many years until I found the solution which I had been right in front of me all this time.

But now was the challenge of finding someone to install the pet door into my glass window which in its self was a very frustrating as I was told over and over again by the experts in the field of glass that it could not be done. Myself being the kind of person who says never believe someone who says Cant I found a pet door company Pet Access Solutions.com who has been doing this for years and does a beautiful job at it, so good that it in fact looks better than factory and it even left me with the original piece of glass that I can reinstall when I move. There is no cutting, mess at the installation or repairs to be done when the pet door is removed just the original glass reinstalled.

These guys were my saviors and my cat felix now has the freedom he has been waiting for and I have a draft free pet door that I have not had any cold breezes come through, after having drafty cat flaps many years ago I thought their claim of a draft free cat door was a bit of a stretch but the Plexidor pet doors they use are really the most energy efficient that I have seen.

Great Product, great customer service, if your local glass companies say it cant be done contact these guys.

I know you either know someone or you even are that someone that may have a mud flap style pet flap that is great for a few months of the year but now with winter approaching your thinking like I was about those cold drafts that chill your feet and all that money you just spent on power heating your house which is now just floating out the pet flap.

After much reasearch we narrowed down the list of those expensive mud flap pet doors and what I mean by expensive is that those inexpensive pet flaps that seemed like a good deal on the shelf but then once installed they start to cost you money by letting your heat out in the winter and the heat into your cool airconditioned house in the summer which now makes those inexpensive pet doors become an expensive pet door year after year.

We found the Plexdor pet door with its double pane rigid saloon style pet doors that include a full commercial weather seal just the cats assets. They are also finished in 3 standard and 6 designer colors which we found great to siute almost any challanging design decor.

We have seen and replaced many a door with limited 3 month waranty but the plexidor comes standard with a full 5 year warranty which cant be beat.

A new inovation on the market is the ability to install the Plexidor into glass whether it be a patio door or a just a window, this installation gives you the full use and lockability of you door with out affecting your alarm or creating any drafts like the patio panels do. We loved this installation and even have an electronic Plexidor mounted in our patio door.

Check these installations out.
