The Best Solution
If you just want a sleek cat door that can be mounted on a variety of surfaces, including a patio door, you can save some money with the choice of Plexidor pet doors.
Most of these will allow your screen to work normally, won’t increase your energy bills and will allow normal function of your door. Not only that, but they’re the best-looking cat doors on the market (but that’s just my humble opinion).
And if you choose to have a bit more versatility, you can have them installed in your patio door to allow reverting the door back to the original state if you decide to move.

Cat’s Smartest Doors
If you live in an area that requires greater control over your pets activities, here are a few programmable or timer-operated cat doors that only open for your cat is what you need.
Just like the plexidor, thse will mount on a great variety of surfaces (including glass), however they’re often not suitable for sliding doors due to clearance issues. They’re probably much better suited to swinging doors and/or windows.
The biggest benefit is that these doors will keep your pet safe by choosing the direction the door can be opened at a specified times.
So you can be sure that your kitty can’t leave the house past certain hours.
This is perfect for any cat owner that wants simplicity and hands-free operation of the cat door without compromising the cat’s safety. This is especially important if you have raccoons in your neighborhood or live in the coyote country and are worried about your pet safety after nightfall
These doors, however, may not be ideal for sliding doors due to bezel thickness as it may prevent the patio door from sliding fully.
Glass Mounted Cat Doors
Our most popular location for mounting a cat door is into a window or patio door which is possible with any of the cat doors we stock and we can help make this process easy just ask us how.
Wall Doors
Let’s say you wish to have the doors mounted on the wall instead, but you’re not sure if you can.
I actually found a number of cat doors that can be mounted on the walls as thick as 24″ and will work on just about any type of wall material. So I created a wall-mounted pet doors page where you can get the full info. These are perfect for pet owners that prefer to have their cat’s door placed in a less conspicuous area.
Door Mount Only
In my experience, the Plexidor doors mentioned at the top are the best solution to 99% of cat owners. However, if you’d like to check out the full range of cat doors that mount on a North-American standard 13/8 in to13/4 in door, I have prepared a page of door-mount pet doors (some of those are good for dogs as well).
I may be bias when it comes to Plexidor, but that’s simply because they deliver the most value for your buck: they look factory-original when installed on your door, are extremely durable, energy efficient and most versatile pet doors on the planet
Cat Pens
OK, I know, this is a page about cat doors, so why talk about pens?
I love cats just as much as I love dogs, and it is devastating to me to hear of a loss of a beloved cat, no matter whose pet it is.
If you live in an area that has a lot of predators, or simply wish to allow your cat to explore the world in a 100% safe zone, you may consider getting a cat pen.
Now, an important distinction here – cat pens are not cages; they actually allow your cat to freely step out of the house and into an outdoor habitat that keeps the predators away.
Just food for thought!
They’ll keep your kitty safe in any environment without restricting its movements to in-house only, and cats go absolutely bonkers for them. Check ‘em out
